What is Waka Kava?

Waka kava is made from the lateral roots of the kava plant called (piper methysticum), which grows in Fiji. Of all the kava varieties that are available to Fijians, “Waka” is the most prized. Waka kava powder is made up of ONLY the lateral roots of the kava plant. These lateral roots are heavy in kava lactones and give a very heavy body effect. It is distinct in its dark colour as it is made only from the lateral roots. If you see kava advertised as “waka” but it is creamy, off-white or similar it is not true waka fiji kava.
